Warm Up and Cool Down

WHY?

  • to increase heat throughout the body
  • to increase the movement of blood through your tissues, making the muscles more pliable and therefore reducing the risk of strains and tears
  • to assist in mental preparation before exercise
  • to increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles
  • to prepare your muscles for stretching

HOW?

  • 5-10 minute jog, to raise a light sweat
  • Appropriate stretches targeting the muscles used in the subsequent exercise
